Love & Logic

In the past weeks, I have included a section on "Health Concerns" in the body of these emails.  Of course, I was referring to the vast number of flu, cold and strep cases that overwhelmed the surrounding schools and our community as a whole.  Let us pray for everyone's better health!!

Although this may not totally qualify as a "health concern," it is my belief that our mental condition is equally as critical a factor jeopardizing our health as any other diagnosed ailment.

And, like any other, left undiagnosed can have catastrophic results.  In the wake of the most recent tragedy on a school campus, I would be remiss in not assuring you that we do not turn a blind eye or take a passive approach to the safety of your (all of our!) children while on this campus.

One very important thing that we indeed do, is TEACH.  We teach the children through Christian messages and role modeling, through our disciplinary methodology of LOVE AND LOGIC, and through actual dialogue with the children: what does it mean to show God's love and to be a sunbeam for Jesus.  What can YOU do???

That never includes resorting to violence of any kind to solve a dispute or hurt feelings or a misunderstanding.  NEVER!

Wouldn't this world be a bit safer place, wouldn't a young momma be able to sleep better at night and not have to worry about her child at school, if we just taught our children to talk about what's in their hearts and on their minds and "arm" them with those skills instead!

To that end.....let us continue the good work we are all doing here at La Casa and invite you to join Mrs. Harvey, one of our classroom teachers who also is a certified LOVE AND LOGIC facilitator, at her next 5 week series of classes.

Please note, this series is to be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Community on consecutive Wednesday evenings on April 4, 11, 18, 25 and May 2.

Weekly Prayer.... Jesus, please watch over us all.  Help us to feel safe in Your loving arms.  Teach us to be good and kind and find that in all others.  Amen.

Prayers for Mrs. Donovan

You often hear me refer to this school community as "family".  And we so genuinely feel that way.  We cherish each and every one of you and your children.  Our teachers are wonderful and love being here and having the opportunity to show them how much they care.  It is our passion and joy.

Our staff, too, is very close and considers each other "sisters in Christ".  As such, when one is hurting, we all hurt.  Please add your prayers for comfort to our own for Mrs. Betsy Donovan, our music teacher of 34 years!  She recently experienced the loss of her husband of over 60 years!  Their relationship was a true testament to the sacrament of marriage and the bond it creates.

She is a blessing to us and our hearts are so heavy for her sadness.  As she takes some time away from school to be with her SEVEN children and numerous (I lost count) grandchildren.  Please remember her in thought and prayer until she returns.

As always, we are grateful for your compassion, understanding, and continued loving support.

Weekly Prayer.... Father, when there is pain, help me to remember that it is my faith that will alleviate that.  When there is sadness, help me to turn to You for comfort.  When there is joy again, help me to be grateful for that and all my blessings.  Amen.

Here To Stay

Our children are here to stay
But our babies are not, I'm sorry to say
They grow and learn everyday
In the most remarkable and intriguing way
We watch and admire our babies so young
Hoping someday they will grow to be strong
Wisdom and integrity are a hopeful thought too
Their brilliance is amazing that much is true
Now they are in school and you don't know what to do
The house is so unnaturally quite and subdued
You try to keep busy, a hobby of some sort
But it doesn't quite fill the missing sound of children  playing of course
Off to college and all grown up, how could this be?
Just yesterday it seemed they were three
You can't wait to watch them grow
Then the day comes when you watch them go
Cherish the little moments so tender and sweet
They grow so quickly you can barely speak
But remember this, as I reassure you with a tear in my eye
Babies are your children and your children will never say 'Good Bye'

Weekly Prayer.... Father, watch over our children as they grow.  And remind us to pay attention.  Help us to slow down so we don't miss a moment.  Amen.
